"I think it’s wonderful that these vendors are allowed to experiment and try new ideas."
Maybe, but I wonder how many of those vendors were out-and-out frauds. Speaking of which, how was Dave Asprey's talk? I've listened to a couple of podcasts with him, and I had some reservations about his trustworthiness as a source of information.
I wasn't able to attend the Asprey talk. A colleague says it was just a Q&A with a vendor, so nothing notable happened. FWIW I like Asprey; he's better at marketing than he is at science, but I mean that as a compliment.
Re: fraud, I have an extremely high tolerance because I want people to decide for themselves. When a third-party (government) decides in advance what can and cannot be sold, it inevitably reduces innovation. Unless it's blatant stealing (e.g. IP or credit card theft) I'd rather settle disputes through the courts than have some supposedly neutral arbitrator "approve" what I'm allowed to try for myself. We have much better reputational scoring systems today, which are far more powerful disincentives for liars than an overworked government agency anyway.
